declawing
Declawing is a misnomer. The surgery involves amputation and severing of the tendons.
Increasing evidence is becoming available regarding the negative effects of declawing a feline.
Animal Outreach believes that declawing is inhumane and causes unnecessary pain and suffering with no benefit to the cat. Some European countries have banned declawing.
Animal Outreach will work with the new guardian to solve the problem of furniture scratching. For example, products such as Soft Paws may be used to eliminate furniture damage due to scratching.
An information sheet with helpful tips can be included in the adoption package. If the new guardian feels that declawing is the only option, the cat will be surrendered back to Animal Outreach.
